Fairtrade Coffee & Chocolate Week

Fairtrade Coffee & Chocolate Week
Fairtrade Coffee & Chocolate Week

Both coffee & chocolate start off as beans grown by small-scale farmers from around the world – just think – by the time you have had your breakfast chocolate muffin and cappuccino you have already relied on tens of thousands of these farmers to grow these essential beans. Coffee & Chocolate week is from 3rd August to 9th August 2015, follow Fairtrade on Facebook FairtradeSA and Twitter FairtradeSA #FairtradeChat as they trace this journey to discover where the beans are grown, learn more about the countries of origin, the different flavour profiles, and meet the farmers behind the stories.

There are also some awesome announcements – Mugg & Bean is launching single origin, organic and Fairtrade “bottomless” coffee across its national stores during Fairtrade Coffee & Choolate Week – Go an Grab a CUPPA!

Also the new Cadbury Dairy Milk Silk is on retail – it really is smoother and silkier, I suggest buying more than one slab mmmmmmm

I love the Fairtrade Instant Coffee – Antigua Fairtrade Freeze dried coffee is exclusively available at Checkers and Checkers Hyper countrywide – and there is even Decaf – for those non caffeine drinkers.

Coffee & Chocolate honestly can you think of a better combination. Fairtrade’s Chef, Food Stylist and Fairtrade Goodwill Ambassador Zola Nene shared a fabulous recipe –

Fairtrade Coffee & Choc Fudge Brownies

170g Butter
180g dark chocolate, chopped
150g castor sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 Cup Cake Flour
4 TBSP Antigua Fairtrade Freeze Dried Coffee
1 tsp salt

To Serve:
1 TBSP Antigua Fairtrade Freeze Dried Coffee
1 tsp cocoa powder

Preparation:
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees
Line a square baking tin
In a bowl, combine butter & chocolate, then melt gently
Beat together castor sugar, eggs and vanilla until light and thickened
Beat in Chocolate mixture
Mix together flour, Fairtrade Freeze dried coffee and salt then fold into the
wet ingredients.
Pour the mixture into a prepared tin.
Bake in the oven for 20 minutes or until the top starts to crack but the centre remains gooey.
Remove from the oven and leave to cool completely in the tin.
Grind together Fairtrade Freeze Dried Coffee and cocoa into a fine powder.
Cut the Brownies into 16 Squares then sprinkle with the chocolate coffee mixture before serving.

You must definitely try this over the long week-end, especially as Coffee & Chocolate week lasts until the 9th August. Enjoy!
