I went to a marvelous party’…

and watched…A Play without words…

A vortex other than being a whirlpool, can be described as being a situation regarded as drawing into its centre all that surrounds it, and this beautifully choreographed adaption of Noel Coward’s ‘The Vortex’ is exactly that – through modern dance the main characters draw eachother into their dysfunctional lifestyle of the 1920’s high society, the time in which this play is set.

While watching, the words that came to mind where fluidity and control – every movement, was made with purpose and each dynamic reflected the emotion of the character the dancer was displaying. A fabulous perspective of the effects our actions have on those around us, and a powerful example of the incredible talent that graces our stages in South Africa.

On stage until the 23rd August – Pieter Torien’s Montecasino Theatre
