SA’s top acoustic musicians to set the scene at the inaugural Red Desert Moon Festival
Port Edward, KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.

The first Red Desert Moon festival takes place over the full moon on Saturday 21st May next to the world’s smallest desert in Port Edward, KwaZulu-Natal. The festival will feature an unplugged acoustic line up of some of South Africa’s most loved folk musicians, including the highly acclaimed finger style guitarist Guy Buttery, “King of Zulu Guitar” Madala Kunene, and local sensation Aden Hinds of the Hinds Brothers.

Guy Buttery is a South African musician cited as “one of South Africa’s most influential artists over the past decade” by The Sunday Independent. Buttery’s distinctive acoustic style is influenced by traditional South African culture, music and instrumentation. In live performances, Guy also uses an EBow and a looper to create “synth-like textures”. He is influenced by artists such as Michael Hedges, Steve Newman, Madala Kunene, Tony Cox, Tananas,Led Zeppelin, Mark Kozelek and Ralph Towner Guy has received numerous accolades for his recorded work as well as for his live performances. He has collaborated, toured, supported and recorded with dozens of artists including Dave Matthews, Jethro Tull, multiple Grammy Award winner and founder of Windham Hill Records, William Ackerman, Vusi Mahlasela, Piers Faccini, Dan Patlansky, Shawn Phillips, Violent Femmes, Martin Simpson, Salif Keita, the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, Steve Newman, Jon Gomm, Preston Reed and many others.

Short walks to the mystical Red Desert and a cascading waterfall offer glimpses into a breathtaking and ancient world. In addition, the moonlight market will be offering handmade and unique craft items for sale, and The Burlesque Cafe Food Hall will be serving up a variety of delicious organic foods!
