It’s all aboard as the demand for travel dominates

Flight Centre Travel Group’s Travel Expo was an overwhelming success, with sales and attendance up on last year.

The Expo, which was held at the Ticketpro Dome  11 & 12 February 2017, drew over 22 000 potential travellers up 10% from last year. Total sales grew a staggering 30% on last year showing an improved quality of service and conversion from our 104 travel experts.

Flight Centre Travel Group Managing Director Andrew Stark says good airfare deals, including companion airfares, and packaged holidays constituted the majority of bookings. The top five destinations for flights were South Africa, Australia, Thailand, USA and United Kingdom.

Flight Centre Holidays, the company’s global manufacturer of unique product packages, also performed phenomenally well, contributing to Mauritius, Thailand, Zanzibar, the Far East and SA being the most popular destinations for packaged holidays.

“The success of the Expo flies in the face of the belief that the poor state of the economy is discouraging travellers,” says Stark.

But he points out South Africans are still searching for value-for-money deals.

Stark says attendees appeared focused on bagging a good deal. “Similar to last year, consumers were looking for all-inclusive packages, great airfares and value-added holidays. We’re happy that we continue to be the only travel company stimulating the desire to travel and keeping travel affordable for ordinary South Africans,” says Stark.
